I offer “enhanced” medication management services. Enhanced just means that I recognize that relief from anxiety, depression and other psychiatric symptoms involve more than just taking a pill. Symptom improvement/resolution is the first step but not the only step to overall mental wellbeing. It’s also important to learn how to deal better with life challenges to decrease the risk of experiencing these symptoms again or at least at the same frequency and intensity. Lastly, it’s recognizing that you cannot separate your mental wellbeing from your overall wellbeing and that is going to take more than prescription medication.
Below are just a few things that have been shown to improve mental and overall wellbeing:
Improved sleep: Did you know that poor sleep can cause, contribute to, or make depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric symptoms worst? It can even make your symptoms more difficult to treat.
Nutrition: Did you know that what you eat can impact your mood for better or for worse? (I do not provide nutritional guidance but supports the addition of a nutritionist to your wellness team)
Physical Activity: Did you know that for mild depression, anxiety as well as other psychiatric symptoms research has found that a consistent exercise regime is just as effective as medication OR works along with medication to reduce your symptoms?
Improved thinking: Did you know that your thoughts can impact your mood and that there are strategies you can learn to break the thought patterns that lead to increased anxiety and crippling depression?
All clients will receive information on the necessary skills, techniques, cognitive and behavioral changes in addition to medication management that can help improve their symptoms, decrease the risk of symptom return and contribute to their overall wellbeing. Client can also choose to have me work with them on incorporating these changes into their lifestyle.
